The Queanbeyan Enterprise Centre trading as Southern Region BEC has been in operation since 1988. It evolved from a local community initiative, with strong Queanbeyan City Council support, to take advantage of a NSW government funding program and offer services to the community in Queanbeyan.

The program was designed to address the failure rate of new small business which was reported to be 1 in 3, assisting people as to whether they were suitable for business and if their business idea was viable.

Today the Southern Region BEC has a strong community identity, delivering services across 18 LGAs and into the ACT.
